This lever can be used in much the same way wedges are used, to control the fall direction of a cut tree. Usually used on smaller trees. Can also be used for rolling logs or for turning hung-up trees. 2004 price range: $35-$45.

Used for controlling the fall direction of a cut tree. These often come in sets, and in bright colors so they can be easily seen. 2004 price range: Single: $1-$10; by the dozen: $20-$90.

Hang-up Strap

When falling small diameter trees in a dense stand, it is quite easy to fall a tree into a neighboring tree.  The hang-up strap is used to roll the hung up cut tree out of the canopy of the standing tree in which it is lodged.  The strap has a claw on one end that you put against the bole of the cut tree, wrap the strap around the claw, put a pole into the loop at the other end of the strap, and using the pole as a lever, you roll the cut tree free.  The hang up of a hang-up strap is that unless the bole of the cut tree is cut free of the stump, it doesn't roll. If you try to cut hinge wood when the tree is leaning into another, the usual result is that the saw becomes pinched between the stump and the bole. 2004 price range: $90-$110.

Wedge pouches clip to a belt and offer an easy way to pack your wedges. Pouches are often made of nylon or leather. 2004 price range: $3-$15.
