Broadcast Seeder

These seeders help to spread seed evenly and efficiently. Seed can be spread by hand, ATV-mount, push-cart and tractor-mount. Capacities range from 25lb to 300lb of seed. Broadcast by hand-crank or motor drive. 2004 price range: $10-$400.

Designed to make planting of seedlings faster and easier. Blade design allows you to make a hole for a seedling in one stroke. Dibbles are wedge-shaped (as pictured) for softer, moister soils; for rockier soils see the planting bar below. 2004 price range: $15-$30.

Like the dibble, these are used for planting seedlings. They can have thin or thick, curved or flat blades. 2004 price range: $30-$80.

A planting bag aids in carrying seedlings while planting. Canvas, cloth, vinyl or neoprene. A harness is a good addition for comfort. 2004 price range: $15-$50.

A planting bar is like a dibble but pointed rather than wedge shaped; better for rockier soils. 2004 price range: $15-$30.
   
Power Auger

Power Augers are motor driven hole-diggers. They come in one- or two- man designs with various bit widths and lengths. Bits, or augers, and engine (pictured) are often sold separately. 2004 price range: Engine: $500-$1600; Auger: $60-$500.

Mesh plastic or wire tubing helps protect new seedlings from browsing damage. Can be installed before or after planting. 2004 price range: $0.30-$0.60/tube.

Wire Flag
